About this tour

Most guests reach the Moroccan Sahara on a route linking Marrakech with the dunes, either out and back or as part of a longer tour towards Fes. We can build the desert section on its own, or weave it into a wider itinerary, always private and always with a guide who works directly for us.

Sample itinerary: 3 days

Marrakech to the desert road

Via the High Atlas, Ounila valley and the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou; evening over the Dades gorge, overnight at a guesthouse.

Through the Todra gorge to Merzouga

The dunes of Erg Chebbi begin. Camel ride at dusk to a Moroccan Sahara camp, where you sleep under the stars.

Sunrise over the dunes, and onwards

Breakfast in camp, then back towards Marrakech or on to Fes to continue a larger tour.

This is a template, not a fixed route: days, stops, camp type and direction are all yours to adjust.

Desert camps & seasons

Two ways to camp and a window of best seasons, so choose the version of the Sahara that suits you.

Camp types. Choose a simple authentic camp with traditional tents and mattresses on the sand, or a fixed luxury camp with private bathrooms, real beds and hot showers. Both sit within walking distance of the dunes and include dinner and breakfast.

Best seasons. The Moroccan Sahara is best from October to April, when days are warm and nights cool and clear. Summer is hot but still rewarding with an early start: we’ll suggest the best timing for your dates.

Help & answers

Common questions

How long is the drive from Marrakech to the desert?

About 9-10 hours each way with scenic stops, so most guests choose at least two nights.

Is the Moroccan Sahara safe to visit?

Yes, the desert routes are well established and we visit them regularly with our own guides, who stay with you throughout.

Can we change the itinerary?

Completely. The sample above is a starting point and we’ll adjust it to your dates, fitness and interests.

What’s the difference between camp types?

Luxe camps add private bathrooms, real beds and hot showers; simple camps put you closer to the traditional desert experience.
