About this tour

The most complete first taste of Morocco: two full days in the imperial cities and the great mosques and palaces of Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, then south over the High Atlas to the Dades and Todra gorges and a camel ride into the Erg Chebbi before the camel-back desert night and the return to Fes. A big loop, comfortably paced, entirely private.

Itinerary: 7 days

Exploring Fes

A full day in the imperial city: the Royal Palace gate, the tanneries, Al Qaraouine University, the Attarine Museum and the old Jewish quarter, with a panoramic viewpoint before your riad.

Volubilis, Meknes & Rabat

The Roman ruins of Volubilis, lunch in imperial Meknes by the Mansour Gate and El-Hedim square, then Rabat’s Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum and the Kasbah of the Oudaya. Night in a riad.

Casablanca to Marrakech

Inside and out of Casablanca’s grand Hassan II Mosque, a walk along the Corniche and lunch, then drive to Marrakech for the night in a riad.

Exploring Marrakech

With a local guide: the Majorelle Gardens, Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the Koutoubia Tower, then free time to wander the markets before nightfall.

The High Atlas to the Dades

Over the Tizi n’Tichka pass to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then through Skoura and the roses country to a hotel in the Dades Gorges.

The Todra Gorge & Merzouga

Walk the Todra canyon walls, lunch at Touroug and pass fossil-and-date Erfoud, then ride the camels into the heart of the desert for a night in a camp.

The Ziz Valley home to Fes

Desert sunrise and a camel ride back for breakfast, then up the Ziz Valley, lunch in Midelt, a stop at Azrou’s cedar forest for the Barbary apes, and drop-off at your Fes riad.

Desert camps & seasons

Two ways to camp and a window of best seasons under this stretch of sky.

Camp type. Choose the authentic Berber camp with traditional tents and mattresses on the sand, or a fixed comfort camp with real beds, private bathrooms and hot showers. Both are within walking distance of the Erg Chebbi dunes and include dinner and breakfast round the fire.

Best seasons. October to April is ideal, with warm days and clear cool nights. Summer is manageable with an early start: we’ll point you to the best dates for your trip.
