Itinerary: 3 days

Marrakech to the Dades Gorges

Via the High Atlas and Ait Ben Haddou, a lunch stop in Ouarzazate, and the Skoura palm grove and Valley of the Roses on the way to a hotel above the Dades Gorges.

Todra Gorge & a night in the Erg Chebbi

Walk the 300-metre Todra canyon, pause in the fossil country around Erfoud, then ride a camel over the Merzouga dunes at sunset for dinner and the night in a Berber tented camp.

Merzouga to Fes

Through the dramatic Ziz Gorge and past Midelt, a stop in Azrou’s cedar forest among Barbary apes, then via Ifrane to Fes, where you are dropped at your hotel.

Desert camps & seasons

Two ways to camp and a window of best seasons under this stretch of sky.

Camp type. Choose the authentic Berber camp with traditional tents and mattresses on the sand, or a fixed comfort camp with real beds, private bathrooms and hot showers. Both are within walking distance of the Erg Chebbi dunes and include dinner and breakfast round the fire.

Best seasons. October to April is ideal, with warm days and clear cool nights. Summer is manageable with an early start: we’ll point you to the best dates for your trip.
