Marrakech to Merzouga: 4 Days

About this tour

Four days and three nights let this route breathe: the first night among the Dades Gorges, a cross-country day through the Todra canyons and the Ziz valley to Merzouga, a nomad-tent night in the dunes, and a loop home through the Draa Valley, the Tamnougalt kasbah and Ait Ben Haddou. Private throughout, with your own vehicle and licensed guide.

Itinerary: 4 days

Marrakech to the Dades Gorges

Cross the High Atlas through Ouarzazate and the Valley of the Roses, then settle into the evening in the dramatic rock country of the Dades Gorges.

Todra, the Ziz Valley & Merzouga

Walk the Todra gorges, cross the Ziz valley through Rissani and Erfoud, then ride a camel into the dunes for dinner in a nomad tent beneath the Sahara sky.

Merzouga back to Ouarzazate

After the desert sunrise, wind back through the Draa Valley past Agdz and the old Tamnougalt kasbah, over the Tizi-n-Tinfifite pass to Ouarzazate for the night.

Ouarzazate to Marrakech

Visit Kasbah Taourirt, the film-set kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then follow the Ounila Valley past Telouet back over the Atlas to Marrakech.

Desert camps & seasons

Two ways to camp and a window of best seasons under this stretch of sky.

Camp type. Choose the authentic Berber camp with traditional tents and mattresses on the sand, or a fixed comfort camp with real beds, private bathrooms and hot showers. Both are within walking distance of the Erg Chebbi dunes and include dinner and breakfast round the fire.

Best seasons. October to April is ideal, with warm days and clear cool nights. Summer is manageable with an early start: we'll point you to the best dates for your trip.
