About this tour

The wilder, quieter Sahara out of Agadir: south through the saffron country of Taliouine and the Anti-Atlas to the palm-fringed oasis town of Zagora, then out of M’hamid on camelback to the great dune field of Erg Chegaga for a night beneath the stars, before winding home past the Berber-carpet town of Taznakht and the ramparts of Taroudant. Private door to door.

Itinerary: 3 days

Agadir to Zagora

East to Taliouine, Morocco’s saffron capital, then across the Anti-Atlas past sun-bleached valleys and kasbahs and the oasis of Agdez to the palm-fringed desert town of Zagora. Hotel night.

M’hamid & Erg Chegaga

To the outpost of M’hamid, where you swap the vehicle for camels and ride into the Sahara toward the towering dunes of Erg Chegaga, gathering round the fire beneath a blanket of stars for a night in camp.

Taznakht, Taroudant & home

Wind back through hidden oases and caravan routes, browse the Berber carpets of Taznakht, explore the ramparts and alleys of ancient Taroudant, then return to Agadir in the evening.

This is a private tour, not a fixed route: days, stops, camp type and pace are all yours to adjust.

Desert camps & seasons

Two ways to camp and a window of best seasons under this stretch of sky.

Camp type. Choose the authentic Berber camp with traditional tents and mattresses on the sand, or a fixed comfort camp with real beds, private bathrooms and hot showers. Both sit close to the great dunes and include dinner and breakfast round the fire.

Best seasons. October to April is ideal, with warm days and clear cool nights. Summer is manageable with an early start: we’ll point you to the best dates for your trip.
